Proposed District 205 Budget Cuts: Make Sure Your Voice is Heard

At its regular workshop meeting on January 12, the school board received an
overview of the district¹s five-year financial forecast. According to
district administrators, growing expenses and enrollment combined with
falling tax income and funds from the state of IL require reductions in the
the budget. A number of possible cuts were offered for consideration
including eliminating the elementary Spanish program, eliminating early and
late bus service for middle school programs, increasing class size to 26 at
grades 3, 4 and 5 plus a number of other options that directly affect

The Board is expected to decide how much the budget needs to be reduced at
its meeting on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:30 pm at 162 S. York St. in the
District 205 administration building.

Final action on budget reductions and revenue enhancements (e.g. - increased
facility usage fees) is expected at the Board meeting on March 9.
