League of Women Voters to Address School District 205 Issues
The League of Women Voters of Elmhurst (LWV) will hold a public meeting on Elmhurst School District 205 issues Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Elmhurst Public Library.
Topics will include the purchase of the 162 South York building, financial matters including the budget process and new funding sources, and open government and transparency issues.  League members who have been examining school issues over the past several months will present the program.
According to Laura Kratz, LWV President, the School District has implemented procedural changes, made a significant building acquisition, and undertaken some highly visible capital improvements all within a relatively short period of time.  As a result, Kratz said, the public has expressed concern, and sometimes anger during Board of Education public comment about what is going on and where the District is headed.
“We decided to expand our Observer coverage and look into the issues independently,” said Kratz.  “There has been a lot to digest and people don’t always know where to look for accurate information.  Some of the changes are responses to changes in Illinois law while others are changes the District decided to make on their own.  We wanted to look deeper and find out where there are legitimate areas of concern and where more community education is needed, “ said Kratz.
