Jump Rope for Heart 2017

Posted by Julia Kanouse on Mar 17, 2017

Jump Rope for Heart is well underway at Emerson!  The goal of the program is to raise awareness of heart disease, focusing on education and prevention in our students' families and community.  Second through fifth graders are having a lot of fun participating.

Activities & Results
Students set heart healthy goals and colored in their "Roary the Lion" sheets that are currently hanging all over the gym!  Anyone who did this has received their Roary Keychain.  And after reaching specific goals for educational emails/messages sent to family members, students receive Gaby the stuffed giraffe, and her baby Gus. So far we have over 4000 emails/ecards sent out!  Also, 85% of the students have met their jump rope goal so far, and classes that reach 100% of their goal will receive a basketball from the American Heart Association for their classroom TDPE bag.  Daily announcements at school are highlighting heart health, and the students are learning all sorts of jump rope activities and tricks in PE.

Coming Up
The final event - Jump Day - is on March 23 - this is always a fun and educational day for the 2nd through 5th graders. To be at the event, parents must be registered to volunteer.  If any parents still want to volunteer, contact Apoor Gami (gami.apoor@gmail.com) or Tammy Henderson (thenderson@elmhurst205.org).
