Calling All Bookworms!

Posted by Julia Kanouse on Aug 23, 2016

This year, all 1st-5th grade students are invited to join the Junior Book Club program. It's a book club for kids! The students will be separated by grade level and each grade level will read a book over the course of the semester, on their own and with the help of their parents.

Towards the end of the semester, students will meet by grade level and discuss the book during recess. We will give the students the tools to thoughtfully read and discuss books with their peers, and they will learn to contribute with confidence. Lifelong love of reading begins with enjoying and thinking about what you’ve read, and that is what our program is all about!

Program Details

Students will obtain the selection for their grade level in September. We will have copies on hand for the first few students, and the Emerson library and Elmhurst Public Library will have copies as well set aside. They will read the book until November, at which point they will meet with us and learn to discuss the book they’ve read!

The program will repeat with a new book selection in January, with a book discussion occurring in March.
