Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year!

Posted by Jana Krausfeldt on Aug 18, 2015

Dear Emerson Families:

Welcome to what promises to be another great school year!  I hope you had a wonderful summer break and are excited to be back at Emerson school!

Whether you are new to the Emerson community or one of our returning families, we encourage you to be part of your child’s school experience through a variety of programs and events offered by the PTA.  During our Opening Day Coffee on August 19, and again at Curriculum Night on August 27, you will have an opportunity to sign up to help with the many different programs and events that benefit our students. If you would like to get a jump start on learning about volunteer opportunities go to under committees.

The Emerson PTA has elected to be a “Fair Share” school – which means we do not require product sales to raise money to support our student programs.  Instead, we ask each family to pay $25 for their first child, and then $20 for each additional child. These funds make up a majority of our operating budget and support great programs like Science Olympiad, Chess Club, Assemblies, Running Club and so many more.

We also encourage all parents to become a member of the Emerson PTA.  Dues can be paid along with Fair Share.  Membership to the PTA ensures you have the ability to influence the many ways in which we support our students.  PTA meetings are generally held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7 PM in the Emerson library. Our first meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 15th.

ONLINE PAYMENT OPTION:    Fair Share and PTA Dues can be paid online!

Please go to the online store to pay online. When placing an order online **IN THE NOTES TO SELLER** box, please indicate Your Child's Name and Teacher in order for us to correctly account the Fair Share payment to your family.

There is a 3% convenience fee for this service which will show up as a tax/convenience fee on your online order.

If you would like to pay by check or cash, please download the Fair Share Dues Form and send it to school or bring it with you to the Opening Day Coffee. Credit Card payments will also be accepted that morning.

Emerson Playground Project 2015-2016

In the past, Emerson has run special campaigns to raise money for specific needs that the school might have that the PTA cannot entirely cover.  Four years ago we ran a campaign to put Smart Boards in every single classroom.  Two years ago we raised money to add 15 Access Points to the school, so that all the wireless technology would run more effectively.  This year the Emerson PTA needs YOU to help raise money for a new play structure at Emerson School! The PTA is generously donating $10,000 towards the project, and we are hoping the Emerson community can match or exceed that amount! Emerson is the only school in the district that does not have playground equipment for use during recess (our existing playground is not accessible for recess).  A new playground will provide our kids with more choices for physical activity, and offer new opportunities for imaginative play, team building, and character building.  There will be a poster at the Opening Day Coffee of the current status of the playground and what the new playground equipment might look like.  Look for your chance to contribute at Emerson's Opening Day Coffee, Curriculum Night, and throughout the first month of school!

Emerson's New Spirit Wear is NOW ON SALE!

Check out Emerson's Spiritwear!!  There is something for everyone!   Shop now for spirit days or get a jump start on Holiday shopping.  There are 2 ways to order....Emerson online storefront or through the order forms that will be sent home in your student's folder.

Order now and support your school!   Deadline is September 10th!  Please note that there is a 11% convenience fee/tax fee (Illinois State Tax and convenience fee combined)

To keep you informed, we constantly update the Emerson PTA website ( and also send out a weekly PTA email - EMERSON HAPPENINGS -  each Thursday.  They both offer important information about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can serve your children better, please don’t hesitate to contact me  or one of our PTA officers anytime throughout the year.

Best wishes for a great school year!
