Emerson's 1st Annual Summer Reading Challenge

Posted by Joan Letourneau on May 25, 2011

Mrs. Gregor is challenging the students of Emerson to read a combined total of 200,000 minutes over the summer. Students entering grades 1 through 5 are invited to participate. If we reach our goal, Mrs. Gregor will come to school dressed like a duck! Here's how it works:

  • The reading challenge runs from June 3 through August 17.
  • Keep track of the minutes you read on the attached form, and return this form to your teacher in the fall.
  • All reading materials count: magazines, books, comics, newspapers.
  • All students who reach 1,000 minutes of reading over the summer will get a popsicle party, and their names announced and posted for the entire school year. They also will be entered in a grand prize drawing.

Take the challenge and let the reading begin! We can reach our goal if each student reads just 15 minutes a day over the 75 days of summer.
