Chicago Tribune Seeking Judges for Academic Scholarship Competition

Posted by Joan Letourneau on Feb 22, 2011

Chicago Tribune education editor Susan Keaton is seeking PTA members to help judge entries in the 2011 Chicago Tribune All-State Academic Team scholarship competition. Your judging will help assure that the best-qualified students and their schools are recognized for their achievements.

Two judging sessions will be held – the first on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 and the second on Thursday, April 7, 2011 – both at Tribune Tower in downtown Chicago. Both sessions will begin at 9:00 am and will conclude by early or mid-afternoon. The Tribune will reimburse for travel expenses to and from Tribune Tower, including public transit fares and/or 40 cents per mile driving plus parking costs, and will provide lunch.

At the first session, judges will review and select finalists from entries received by the Tribune from high school seniors all over Illinois. At the second session, judges will review the finalists' entries and select 10 winners. (You’re invited to participate in one or both sessions, although a greater number of judges are needed for the first session.)

Each of the 10 All-State Academic winners receives a $2,000 college scholarship and will be profiled in a package of articles in the Chicago Tribune on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Click here to see Tribune articles on last year’s winners.

If you would like to participate as a judge, please contact Joe Sjostrom at 708.704.8313 or
