Visit the Backpack Fair on Sept. 18

Posted by Joan Letourneau on Sep 6, 2010

Did you know that the weight of your child’s backpack should be no more than 15 percent of your child’s body weight? Carrying a backpack that is too heavy can lead to back, neck and shoulder pain and dysfunction.

To help address this growing problem, St. Luke’s church, located on the corner of Maple and North Ave., is hosting a “Backpack Fair” from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 18.

All school-aged children are encouraged to bring their backpack packed for a typical day. Each child will be weighed individually as well as with their backpack. In addition, physical and occupational therapy volunteers will be on hand to educate our children on the best type of backpack to carry and how to pack their backpack safely.
