Waste Free Wednesdays Start September 1

Posted by Joan Letourneau on Aug 26, 2010

Emerson PTA’s Go Green! Committee has designated September 1 as the first Waste
Free Wednesday of the new school year.

The first three weeks will be practice runs to get students familiar with the program. We will begin qualifying lunches on September 22.

On Waste Free Wednesdays – and every day – we encourage you to pack your child’s lunch using reusable food containers, drink containers, utensils and napkins. A lunch is not considered waste free if it includes disposable packaging such as prepackaged foods, plastic bags, juice boxes and pouches, paper napkins, and disposable utensils. Although Emerson recycles during lunch, recyclables are not considered waste-free. (Milk cartons are recyclable, and therefore a lunch containing purchased milk is not waste free. Consider packing a thermos instead.)

Please visit the Go Green! Committee page for more information on Waste Free Wednesdays.

If you have any questions about this program, please contact Barbara Lonergan, Go Green! Committee Chair, at 630.279.0170;
